A bumper crowd is expected for the event, with more than 14,000 tickets sold already.
Money raised through the match will assist the Ponting Foundation support Tasmanian children battling cancer.
Ponting said in excess of $150,000 or $200,000 would be a huge result.
``Whatever we make we'll be very proud of, and trust me every cent and every dollar will stay here in Tasmania,'' he said.
``It's going to go a long way to helping every young cancer sufferer in Tasmania.''
The former Australian captain said having a tribute match under lights at Aurora Stadium was humbling.
``It's a great honour, and something I'm really looking forward to,'' he said.
``I'm sure everyone who turns out tomorrow night will have an awesome time.''
