Luke David Gillies , 31, pleaded guilty to three counts of driving with drugs in his body.
On three different occasions last year he tested positive to cannabis and meth after being stopped by police.
Magistrate Reg Marron said today the court needed to ''ramp up'' its response given Gillies had now been caught five times driving while using drugs.
His lawyer said since the birth of his child four months ago Gillies had changed his lifestyle.
Mr Marron sentenced him to one month jail suspended for a year and fined him $1200.
He was disqualified from driving for 12 months.
