Police allege the relationship lasted for nearly three years while the girl was aged 11 to 13.
The 52-year old defendant appeared in the Launceston Magistrates Court this morning.
His lawyer Alan Hensley had the matter committed to the Supreme Court in Launceston.
Magistrate Simon Brown remanded the man on bail until March 17.
