Owners of Hillcrest Tourist Park and Mini Market, Dave and Nicky Goddard, certainly hope so.
The couple hoped to drop the price of fuel at their St Helens accommodation from 153.9¢ a litre to 152.9¢ a litre yesterday afternoon.
‘‘The previous owners always maintained the cheapest fuel and we’ll try to maintain that,’’ Mrs Goddard said.
The tourist park is about 10 kilometres from St Helens’ town centre.
Mrs Goddard said the cheap petrol was a way of enticing people to the site’s general store.
Other petrol stations in the East Coast town can be up to 8¢ per litre more expensive, she said.
‘‘We don’t make a great deal on fuel — we keep the margin as low as we can, but make sure we’re not losing money.
‘‘Lots of people say they come this way for it.’’
Mr and Mrs Goddard also offer hot food, pizzas and homemade pies at their St Helens Point park.
‘‘Any sunny day is busy,’’ she said.
