DAYS of hot weather have been few and far between this summer. But it finally looks like warm weather is here to stay - for now. The mercury topped 29 degrees in Launceston yesterday. The city shared top honours for the maximum Tasmanian temperature with Ross and Cressy. Bringing up the rear was Mount Read in the state's west, where the maximum temperature recorded was just 13 degrees. According to the Bureau of Meteorology, yesterday's conditions were warmer than usual for this time of year right across the state. But only just. The average variation was between one and two degrees. Forecasts predict Northern residents can look forward to a string of warm days in the week ahead. In Launceston, maximum temperatures are expected to hover around the 30-degree mark until at least Friday. A bit of cloud cover is on the cards, but the chance of rain is minimal. Devonport and Burnie residents can expect temperatures in the mid to high 20s throughout the week.
