The mother had been driving down Ables Hill Road about 4.30pm when a mechanical failure caused the Ford Laser to accelerate across St Leonards Road, plough into two parked vehicles, through a paling fence and into the unit.
The vehicle came to rest in the unit's kitchen.
Acting Sergeant Scott Bailey said the occupants of the car were shaken after the incident but were otherwise uninjured.
``The vehicle is an older model car that experienced a mechanical problem and, arguably, the lack of regular maintenance has played a part in this accident,'' Mr Bailey said.
``I would recommend that motorists are reminded of the importance of conducting regular maintenance, on all vehicles, to help avoid this type of accident.''
Motorist experienced minor delays on St Leonards Road after the crash.
