The Tasmanian paceman, who had taken nine Big Bash League wickets at 11.22 for the Melbourne Stars, last played against the English in the fourth Ashes Test in England last year before flying home due to a back injury.
National selection panel chairman John Inverarity yesterday said the match would be another opportunity for Bird to increase his workload.
