She made her bed, some might say, so it may not go down very well with Twilight fans to learn that Kristen Stewart has reportedly cancelled a red carpet appearance because she is too "embarrassed."

The star, embroiled in an affair scandal with Snow White and the Huntsman director, Rupert Sanders, is said to be shunning the limelight after pictures of her emerged in a clinch with the married man.

Now, the fallout from the incendiary photographs is affecting the 22-year-old actress' work, with her appearance at London's On The Road premiere cancelled, reports Radar Online.

While Robert Pattinson, Stewart's boyfriend of three years, may not have the most sympathy for his erstwhile lover, the beleaguered couple have found a guardian in the form of Breaking Dawn director, Bill Condon.

The Hollywood heavyweight has urged the public to respect the young actors as they work through their heart-ache.

Fans have turned on the actress - even calling her a "trampire" - after she confessed to a fling with Sanders, who is married to British model and actress, Liberty Ross. The revelation appears to have ended Stewart's romance with Pattinson, her Twilight co-star.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly magazine, Condon asks people to be as respectful to the former couple as Pattinson and Stewart have been to fans.

"The fact is, these are actors playing parts, and maybe it's not such a bad thing that people be reminded of that," he says.

"Both of these actors gave heart and soul to the Twilight movies, not only during shooting, but also by navigating so graciously the whole life-in-a-fishbowl aspect of the phenomenon.

"They have always shown great respect for the fans who made these movies such a success. Now it's time that some of that respect be returned to them."

Pattinson, 26, is believed to have moved out of the Los Angeles home he shared with Stewart.

However, both stars are expected to promote the final Twilight film, Breaking Dawn Part 2, in the weeks leading up to its November release.

Pattinson is also about to start promoting his new David Cronenberg movie Cosmopolis. He will be interviewed on Good Morning America and The Daily Show with Jon Stewart next week.

Ross, who played Stewart’s mother in the Snow White remake, fuelled speculation that her marriage to the director is on the rocks when she was spotted in Los Angeles without her wedding ring on Sunday.

She left the ring at home again on Tuesday when she and Sanders were photographed on Tuesday at a Beverly Hills deli.

In an interview Pattinson gave the day before news of the affair broke last month, the British actor said he struggled to trust people.

"[I] can't trust anyone," he said. "I'm quite hypersensitive. Sometimes it makes it easier to stand your ground if you're sensitive."

Seemingly unaware his girlfriend had been unfaithful, he added he has always been surrounded by loyal and supportive people.

"No...," Pattinson replied when asked if he had ever been betrayed. "Never by people who are actually in my life, like who are my friends ... No one's ever done anything, which is crazy."
