MAD art is set to rock perceptions at the Longford Waste Transfer Station this weekend as tricks are turned with trash.

Rusted, dated and discarded 44-gallon drums have been artistically remastered into everything from furniture to time machines as part of the Making a Difference Project.

The MAD project is part of a masters of cross- disciplinary arts degree for Launceston vision- weaver Liz Russell-Arnot.

Ms Russell-Arnot said the choice to hold workshops at Longford Waste Transfer Station on Saturday came as a nod to the assistance provided by the region.

"The transfer station staff have been really, really helpful - they gave us materials for our works for free, which is a huge help, the Northern Midlands Council have also been very kind to us," she said.

"I chose to do art and recycling, it was a simple choice as I was already doing art using recycled materials."

Works from four Tasmanian artists; textiles artist Tamara Henri, conceptual artist Chris Flood, installation artist Joanna Anglesey and Ms Russell-Arnot, will be on display from 10am to 2pm.
