About 100 remote control car enthusiasts are gearing up for the next month's third annual Tiger Models Launceston Cup to be held at Quercus Rural Youth Park, Carrick.
Launceston R/C Racers secretary and event organiser Richard Green said remote control car racing was growing in popularity.
``We have not been able to get as many interstate entries this year because it turned out we clashed with another major event in Victoria,'' he said.
``Even the most basic models are capable of hitting 40 to 60km/h with the bigger models reaching 100km/h in a couple of seconds - they're very powerful.'' Practice will take place on Friday, September 13, before competition on both Saturday, September 14, and Sunday, September 15, from 9am.
Different classes will race each day with qualifying rounds to occur in the morning, and finals in the afternoon.
Mr Green said a change in venue allowed for a better track and additional radio control displays and demonstrations to coincide with a full weekend's racing.
``We've switched to a full off-road track rather than our hybrid layout of previous years and have developed an even bigger and more exciting multi-surface off-road track,'' he said.
Entry for spectators is free.
