After migrating to Australia when he was four years old, Andrew enlisted in the Australian Army when he was 17. Andrew and his wife Christine have three adult children, and despite a busy military career, they have owned a home in Launceston for most of their married life and remained involved in the community. Andrew is a member of the Riverside Lions Club, the RSL and Launceston Bowls Club.

Andrew left the Department of Defence in July 2011, having served for 33 years as a soldier, officer and senior public servant, and achieving the rank of Brigadier in the Army. Andrew’s military career included postings in peace and war to Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Israel, South Lebanon, Philippines, the United States, and many locations in Australia.
He spent nine years in regular army infantry battalions, taught at the Royal Military College, and commanded the Parachute Training School and the Army Recruit Training Centre. Andrew also acheived a Bachelor of Arts and Social Science, and three Masters degrees in Management, International Relations, and Strategic Studies.
Because he understands the challenges facing families, as a part of Liberal team, Andrew wants to fight for reduced cost of living pressures, more support for small business and better services for the residents of Bass.
