As part of the City of Learning's Love Launceston campaign, students can get discounts at Begents, Coles Mowbray, Hudsons Coffee, JBC Sports Power, Pizza Capers and Sebachi Clothing.
And more businesses have been called on to offer discounts.
At Sebachi, university students receive 20 per cent off clothing, while at Coles Mowbray students get a 5 per cent discount.
"Uni students still living at home can even get the discount for their families as long as they have their student cards," Coles Mowbray grocery manager Peter Franks said.
University of Tasmania Launceston engagement and development manager Jo Archer said the discount campaign was a good way to promote university life in Tasmania.
"It's good to show students and potential students that we're a city that cares about them," Ms Archer said.
"We would like to get a lot more (businesses) involved because there really is no loser."
Sebachi owner Lisa Tedeschi said the initiative had been great for raising her business's profile to customers who may not have heard of it before.
"They probably didn't know about it before, but now they're finding us through social media," she said.
All businesses involved in the Love Launceston campaign are advertised on its website and Facebook page and have a student-friendly sticker on their window.
The campaign will run until the end of the university year.
