The state's top skaters hit the Devonport Skate Park yesterday for the Tasmanian finals of the national amateur talent competition. The open competition was won by 21-year-old Turners Beach skater Kristian Rowell, with Launceston trio Blair Harwood, Brendon Hill and Nathan Mason rounding out the top four.
Beau Kelly, 12, of Goodwood, won the under-14 division ahead of Victoria's Brad Saunders and Daniel Mason, of Taroona.
The seven finalists will now go on to the Australian amateur series grand final at the Skate Park of Melbourne on March 30.
SBA judge Campbell said the Tassie boys were in with a shot at national glory, as yesterday's skating was as good as any he had seen during the 2013 amateur tour.
"Especially in the open final, the guys skated just as good as we have seen anywhere this year," Campbell said.
"If they can land all their tricks on the grand final day, you wouldn't bet on them losing."
The winner of the Australian open amateur championship will win $2000 and a place in pro-am invitational tour.
The national junior winner will net $700.
