Paul Brian Edward Connelly, 49, and the boys, aged eight and five, suffered serious burns in a car fire on Woniora Road in Shorewell Park on December 5.
Mr Connelly was charged in a bedside sitting of the Hobart Magistrates Court at the Royal Hobart Hospital yesterday with attempted murder and two counts of grievous bodily harm.
He was remanded in custody to appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court on January 23, but remains in serious condition in hospital.
The two boys remain in a serious but stable condition in the Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne.
