Deadlock looming for MLC forestry vote

The vote on crucial forestry legislation appears headed for a tied vote.

Launceston MLC Rosemary Armitage, who previously expressed serious concerns, has declared she'll vote to 'give peace a chance'.

Eight MLCs have spoken on the bill so far, with three against and five in favour.

Of the upper house members still to come, three have declared their opposition, two are expected to vote yes and one is unknown.

If it's a tie, the matter will proceed to the committee stage when amendments will be debated.

If it's still tied at the end of that stage, President Sue Smith will most likely use her casting vote to reject the legislation.
