Detective Inspector Scott Flude, of Launceston CIB, said police had resumed the excavation of the Bicheno Waste Management Centre this morning in a last-ditch effort to find the red hire bike.
Police began searching through 20-years of rubbish at the site in February, after an East Coast man contacted them last year and said he had seen the bike there 19-years ago.
``In the interests of ensuring the information is fully investigated, Police have determined to return to the tip to excavate to an even deeper level,'' Detective Inspector Flude said.
The tip will be closed to the public today and tomorrow, while the search takes place.
More in The Examiner tomorrow.
