Firefighters were called to 28 Pioneer Parade at about 4.30pm and the derelict and boarded-up house was well alight.
Firefighters said there were no occupants and the blaze was suspicious so the police would investigate.
Neighbours said they heard a loud bang from the burning house soon after the blaze began.
Firefighting units from Launceston, Rocherlea and Ravenswood attended.
One neighbour said the house should have been immediately demolished, rather than left standing, to minimise the chances of it being burnt again.
