The Tasmanian Fire Service has issued a watch and act warning and the Poatina Road between Poatina township and the Arthurs Lake Road is closed.
The fire is burning on both sides of Poatina Road between Great Lake and Arthurs Lake.
A watch and act message is in place for Cramps Bay.
There is no immediate threat to communities but Jonah Bay may be affected in the next 10 hours.
Parks and Wildlife Service have sent five vehicles and two helicopters, and the TFS two vehicles.
There may be embers, smoke and ash falling on communities north west of Arthurs Lake. Smoke may also affect communities from Campbelltown to Oatlands
The general public should not visit the area.
Those in the area are advised to listen to ABC Radio and visit the TFS website www.fire.tas.gov.au for regular emergency updates.
