Friends of a young international student killed in a tragic collision in Melbourne's west have rallied to return her body home. Frances Jeyann Ramirez, 22, was about to embark on her final year of university when she was struck by two cars in Melbourne on November 25. Attempts to revive the Filipino national were unsuccessful and she was pronounced dead at the scene. In the wake of her death, more than 1000 people rallied around an online bid to repatriate her body to her mother in the Philippines. Friend Princess Joy Lugod said she was "truly saddened" by the death of her good friend. "We are doing this fundraising to help the family bring Frances back to her hometown," she said. "Please include her beautiful soul in your prayers." Within four days of launching, the fundraiser had crowdsourced more than $44,000 of a $50,000 overall goal. Her father Jay Ramirez took to social media to pay tribute to his "sweet baby girl" who had celebrated her birthday only weeks before her death. "If tears could build up stairways and memories a lane, I'd walk right back up to heaven and bring you home," he wrote. "Thank-you anak ko (my child) for the 22 years of love you've shared with us ... we'll be missing you." More than 272 lives have been lost on Victorian roads this year, compared with 226 deaths in December 2022. A Victoria Police spokesperson confirmed the circumstances of the crash were still under investigation and urged people to come forward with information. "It's believed the pedestrian was struck by two separate vehicles," she said. "The drivers of the two vehicles involved were uninjured, remained at the scene and are assisting police with their enquiries." Anyone who witnessed the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or file a confidential report online.
