Carrick Roubaix

THE NDCC Roubaix of the North, at 1pm Saturday at Carrick has the support of past local cycling greats, Micheal Wilson and Kevin Morgan.

Both champions agree the 85 kilometre race, which includes six sections of gravel road, is in the mould of the tough races of yesteryear.

The unique winners trophy of a ``cobble'' is much prized. There will be six grades and overall prizes down to fifth place.

F graders should be prepared for an early start.

Sign-on will be held at the Carrick Hall and the start-finish in Bishopsbourne Road.

The race continues through Bishopsbourne, Liffey Road, Green Rises, left into Maitland Road (gravel), then Toiberry Road and Armstrongs Lane.

The smaller circuit is completed three times before returning to Carrick.
