Gower, 39, was found guilty of punching Jason Fitch in his Dromana Court home on October 13, 2010.
The jury returned their verdict before midday.
Over the course of the three-day trial, the jury heard Gower dragged Mr Fitch by his collar, put him in a waiting car and sat next to him while he was driven to an isolated gravel road near Nunamara.
He was found guilty of a second count of assault for punching Mr Fitch to the head and stripping him naked once at Nunamara.
Former Ravenswood man Shane Murray Brown, 21, was acquitted of the same charges.
The prosecution had alleged that Mr Brown had driven the car and encouraged the assault.
The jury heard Mr Fitch ran from his attackers at Nunamara and spent the night in the bush before reaching an occupied farmhouse at Patersonia Road, Patersonia, the next day.
He identified Gower as his attacker to the woman there, who waited with him for an ambulance to arrive.
The jury also heard evidence of blood containing Mr Fitch's DNA being found in Gower's car.
Gower had pleaded not guilty to the charge and argued Mr Fitch had implicated him because he was jealous of residual feelings between Gower and his de facto partner.
Chief Justice Ewan Crawford remanded Gower in custody.
He will be sentenced on Thursday.
