The ongoing closure of Tasmania's borders has contributed to a decision to temporarily close the Tasmania Zoo, owner Rochelle Penney says.

Ms Penney said the zoo would be closed to visitors throughout August and September.
"These cold weather months are typically quiet for us here at Tasmania Zoo in terms of visitation so to ensure the sustainability of our business and support our hard-working team we will temporarily," she said.
Ms Penney said staff had been stretched by extra responsibilities during the COVID-19 shutdown..
"Our dedicated animal care teams will continue to be here every day providing our animals with a high level of care," she said..
Ms Penney said the Zoo would reopen for the next school holidays.
