Motorists using Evandale Road have received a safety boost after shoulder sealing was completed on the 4 kilometre stretch between Launceston Airport and Leighlands Road late last month.

In a statement, Infrastructure Minister Jeremy Rockliff said that as a gateway to the airport, the road was a major route for freight and the growing number of visitors to Northern Tasmania.
The state government have also committed to a further $5.5 million duplication of the road from the airport entrance to the Breadalbane roundabout - widening the current single-lane carriageway to four lanes.

"This continued upgrade of Evandale Road will improve safety for locals, and ensure the best first impression for visitors travelling from the airport," Mr Rockliff added.
Launceston Airport reported a five per cent growth in passengers over the first quarter of the 2018-19 financial year, compared to the previous year.
