As the Battery of the Nation Tasmania could export energy to mainland Australia with greater interconnection, but the state government has assured residents this will not impact pricing levels here.

Energy Minister Guy Barnett said Tasmania’s ability to supply excess power to the mainland would keep downward pressure on the state’s electricity prices.
“We already have Australia’s lowest regulated electricity prices, according to the economic regulator as of July this year, and our target is to remain, and to beat, the lowest regulated residential and business electricity prices in Australia by 2022,” Mr Barnett said.
Post 2022 we’ll be in a position to expert excess power to the mainland.

Under the Tasmania First energy policy the state government is aiming for the state to be 100 per cent self sufficient using renewable energy by 2022.
“We’re on track with the Cattle Hill wind farm and Granville Harbour wind farm under construction as we speak,” Mr Barnett said.
“Post 2022 we’ll be in a position to expert excess power to the mainland for the benefit of Tasmanians. This our Battery of the Nation plan, which is to deliver billions in investment, thousands of jobs, particularly in rural and regional Tasmania, and double our energy capacity, which is currently 2500 megawatts.”
