The Black Caps had gone unbeaten in their four games to date but were skittled for just 101 in a scorecard featuring three ducks and three single-figure scores. 

Richard Howe’s side then chased down the total with eight wickets to spare as a patient innings from promoted opener Dom Barrett (35 not out) and Sean Stevenson (28 not out) steered the ship home.  

“We’re happy to walk away from there with the points,” Howe said.

“We obviously spoke about a few things last week and we were able to put them in place today.

“We’re very pleased with the performance, it wasn’t their day - everyone’s entitled to a bad game and they’ve probably got theirs out of the way now.”

Skipper Josh Walmsley top-scored with 29 for the Black Caps but received little help as spinners Alex Kerrison and Will Donald (two wickets apiece) strangled the scoring and recalled teenager Joel Lloyd (3-7) cleaned up the tail.

Tom Garwood’s dream season continued as RIVERSIDE chased down 201 to keep Wynyard winless. 

The left-handed opener amassed 28 fours in a career-high 142 not out to anchor the Northern Blues to a six-wicket win. 

“Today was one of those days where everything seemed to come out of the middle of the bat,” he said. 

“It was a really good deck and anything that beat the outfield was four.”

Earlier, Wynyard had made a great start with Brendan and Jarrod Willcox (62) making a 93-run stand for the first wicket. 

A collective fightback saw the North-West Blues reduced to 7-141 before Marcus Gee (30) and Peter Fulton (31 not out) led the visitors to their highest total of the season.

But the home side was unperturbed, putting on 114 for the first wicket through Garwood and Josh Partridge (26) and sailing home in the 43^rd over. 

“They were 0-90 in about the 20th over and it wasn’t looking great,” Garwood said. “But to the boys’ credit they fought back and we were able to defend a reasonable total and chase it down.”

Darcey Brazendale took 2-34 for the visitors. 

SOUTH LAUNCESTON set the highest total of the season to date before collecting a double bonus point win against Devonport. 

Sent in to bat for the second week running, the Knights promoted Nathan Carter to opener and the Queensland import enjoyed a 107-run opening stand with Sean Harris. 

Harris fell three runs shy of a second first-grade ton but there was more pain to come for the Orions as James Lee (career-high 64) and Nathan Philip (55 not out) posted milestones for the second game running.

Chasing 4-322, Devonport lost Tim Moore and Brent Lawler in Graham Donaldson’s first two overs but steadied through Brad Moore and Cody Brown (34).

Ben Jackson, Josh Freestone and the returning Jackson Young (3-29) took over where Donaldson left off and a stubborn last-wicket stand ensured the Orions’ innings finished at 9-161. 

“We’ve had two washouts and a bye so that’s (an extra) two points we probably needed to get back near the top of the ladder,” Knights skipper Tom Waller said.

“Jackson Young in his first game took three wickets and really gave us a good option there as a fourth seamer, which is probably what we’ve been missing.”

An eight-wicket win confirmed BURNIE’s continued dominance over Launceston.

The Hurricanes held the Lions to just 112 as Brady Yates and Kurt Lamprey’s three-wicket hauls ensured Tom Bennett (44) and Lachie Newland’s 40-run stand was the highest of the innings.

Newland gave hope of a miracle by nicking off both openers but Josh Barry was insatiable, knocking 92 not out to finish the chase inside 19 overs and secure maximum points. 

SHEFFIELD needed less than 27 overs to record an eight-wicket win over Mowbray.

Connor Lockhart (35) led the Eagles to 1-61 but the collective class of Sam Robinson and Marc Simonds (three wickets each) saw the home side dismissed for 121.

In reply, the Mountaineers made it to 70 before Alex King (39) and Jordon Marshall fell to Callum Peck in quick succession.
