Two football goal posts were ripped from their foundations in the second vandal attack in 12 months, the school association says.
The damaged goal posts were found by the school on October 29 and the crime was reported to Tasmania Police.
School association chairperson Carrie Wallis said the vandalism was disappointing and would affect the school’s young pupils.
“It’s really disappointing, Bicheno Primary School is a school of about 80 students and they use that oval regularly,” she said.
Mrs Wallis said 12 months ago, vandals also targeted the soccer goal posts, with the netting ripped and the goals pulled from the ground.
The school reached an agreement with Glamorgan Spring Bay to use the recreation ground, which is located adjacent to the school, for pupils to use at recess, lunch and for sporting activities, including football and soccer, among others.
Mrs Wallis said the school association had raised more than $12,000 to prepare the ground for the pupils, which included installing soccer and football goal posts.
“The recreation ground is used by the school but also by the community and we are extremely gutted this has happened,” she said.
Tasmania Police confirmed it was investigating an incident of vandalism at Bicheno Primary School.
Charges are yet to be laid in relation to the incident.
