Tasmania Police said the Westpac Rescue Helicopter is currently transporting the man to the Royal Hobart Hospital.
EARLIER:
A 52-year-old Launceston man has suffered severe burns in a plane crash in Northern Tasmania on Sunday.
Emergency services were called to the scene near Westwood Road at Hagley about 11.20am.
The man sustained serious injuries as a result of the crash and was taken to Launceston General Hospital.
He was the sole occupant of the single-engine plane.
Tasmania Police said the Westpac Rescue Helicopter remains on standby.
The Australian Transport Safety Bureau was notified and an investigation would be conducted.
Tasmania Fire Service sent two medium tankers, one heavy pumper, a resource listed as other and a car to the scene.
Emergency service crews were expected to remain at the scene for several hours.
Anyone who saw the aircraft near Hagley just before the crash should call Tasmania Police on 131 444.
