The St Leonards track on Saturday witnessed in total 26 category winners during the seventh and final round of the sport’s 2018 season.
Two of them were the toast of Launceston on the opposite end of the spectrum.
Andrew Bayes would have champagne corks popping in his 50+ cruiser men’s win.
Campbell Whitney had reserved his celebration to a soft drink when he claimed the 11-years boys race.
Wynyard BMX Park were also cheering on chequered flag finishes for Matthew French (40-44 men) and Joel Lee (35-39 cruiser men).
At the fast end of town, the women’s superclass race was a furious start and that sort of ferocity came down to a thrilling sprint finish.
Thomas in the end shaded Batemans Bay rider Leah Hearne by just two-tenths of a second on the line in a field dominated by NSW riders.
Rounding out the podium was talented 15-year-old Paige Harding, who snuck under the guard of Australian junior women’s champion Ashlee Miller in what proved to be a top race craft display.
Fletcher found a way to win the battle of the dual Victorians, lunging ahead of the highly-fancied Max Cairns.
Cairns has been rubbing shoulders with former world champions Joris Daudet and Corban Sharrah for podiums at the American nationals.
But it was Wollongong’s Leanne Curtis and Forster’s Oliver Moran crowned this year’s superclass national series champions.
