Tasmania Police said it responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash on Wilmot Road at 11.30am, only to find the man was deceased upon their arrival.
Police from Ulverstone, Devonport, Latrobe, Western Forensics and Western Crash Investigation Services attended the scene, along with Tasmania Fire Service, SES and Tasmania Ambulance.
Police said initial enquiries indicated the driver was travelling north on Wilmot Road when he lost control of his vehicle and struck the railing.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation, however it is believed the slippery road conditions may have contributed to the crash.
The man is believed to be from the Wilmot area.
Anyone who saw a white Holden sedan travelling on Wilmot Road between 11am and 11.30am on Saturday is encouraged to contact Tasmania Police.
Police urge all drivers to adjust their speed to suit the road and weather conditions.
