Popular Devonport Dentist, Dr Stephen Pohan is on the move and opening a boutique Orthodontic service in Launceston.
A sea changer from Victoria, Dr Pohan opened ‘Dr Stephen Pohan and Associates’ in Devonport more than 14 years ago.
“We’ve moved to Launceston for the education opportunities available to the kids,” Dr Pohan said.
“Nothing will be changing in the Devonport practice and I will still be working there”
The office will operate one day a week, to allow Dr Pohan one less day of travel to the main practice in Devonport.
A general practising dentist, Dr Pohan found a love of Orthodontics in 1986 when he worked at two orthodontic practices in Melbourne.
“There is a need for more orthodontic services within Northern Tasmanian, and what we are offering will be a little different,” he said.
“The difference between me and a specialist Orthodontist is that I look at the process from a different point of view.
“From a general dentistry point of view, we will do everything from straightening your teeth to making them look better.”
The boutique service will be open to patients of all ages, with Dr Pohan stating that clients aged 50-70 years are the most popular.
“People of all ages are interested in having straight teeth,” he said. “Children at the age of 6 can benefit from having an assessment to help families plan for their future treatment. Sometimes early intervention can prevent the need for braces.
“And we also have patients with braces in their 50’s and 60’s and even a 70-year-old. It is never too late.”
The consultation process for all clients is done either in person or online, with after school and evening appointments available.
The world of Orthodontics has greatly advanced in the last ten years, with the majority of the process done digitally.
“Our techniques are pretty high-tech and like everything these days, done in the digital world,” he said.
“ To assess each situation, moulds of the teeth are printed from scans. “We also do live mock ups to show them what their teeth will look like after.”
The boutique service will offer a wide range of treatment options, and it isn’t all about braces.
“We will always work out what is the best course of treatment for all patients,” Dr Pohan said.
“ It isn’t always a case of ‘you’ve got crooked teeth, you need brace’s’, we will explore the problem, and it might be that you need, bonding, veneering or other asthetic techniques.
“ We will always give our patients, the options, the outcomes and guide them as best we can.”
Dr Pohan said he was excited to start work in the Launceston area and meet his prospective patients.
“We have been very popular in Devonport and hope to have the same success in Launceston.”
