The gruesome discovery was made by police on Sunday night and it is believed the torso belonged to missing man Jake Anderson-Brettner.
The 24-year-old disappeared from Riverside last Wednesday and two people were charged in relation to his alleged murder on Monday.
Riverside man Jack Harrison Sadler appeared in the Launceston Magistrates Court on Wednesday morning, charged with murder.
The 26-year-old did not enter a plea and was remanded to reappear on September 11.
A Riverside woman also appeared, charged with being an accessory after the fact.
Gemma Clark, 25, pleaded not guilty and will appear in the Launceston Supreme Court for a directions hearing on October 15.
Detective acting Inspector Craig Fox said police would continue to search for the rest of the alleged victim’s remains.
“The circumstances of Jake’s death are traumatic and police will continue to conduct extensive searches to provide closure to his family and loved ones at this difficult time,” he said.
“While the investigation is ongoing police cannot rule anything out.
“Formal identification of the torso located near Targa on Sunday, believed to be Jake, is anticipated to be completed next week.”
