Jake Anderson-Brettner vanished from Riverside last Wednesday and some of his remains were found near Myrtle Park on the Tasman Highway on Sunday night.
What started as a hunt for a missing man has expanded into a major search across Launceston for clues as to how and why the 24-year-old was killed.
Detectives spent much of Monday still searching near Myrtle Park, as well as the tip at Mowbray, where police believe the rest of his body may have been dumped.
The case was upgraded to a murder investigation.
Two people remained in custody on Monday night.
The 26-year-old man and 25-year-old woman from Riverside were arrested on Saturday morning, but no charges had been laid as of Tuesday morning.
The crime has been described as “traumatic” by police and has sent shockwaves throughout the community.
Friend Twigs Millwood had been speaking with Mr Anderson-Brettner just 24 hours before he disappeared, describing the news of his death as “shattering”.
“Jake was always the life of the party wherever he was and always went out of his way to make sure everyone around him was having fun,” Mr Millwood said.
“His laugh was infectious and the fact that his life at the end was held with such disregard while others held it so dearly is utterly disgusting.
“The loss of Jake will be felt for a lifetime.”
Launceston’s deputy mayor Rob Soward said it was a sad time for the city.
“There is a lot of sadness, anger and grief in our local community at the moment,” he said.
“Let's make sure we take good care of each other at a tough time for many people are doing it very hard emotionally.”
Detectives, forensic officers and SES will continue to search multiple sites across the city on Tuesday.
Police are also still searching for a car they believe is linked to the case.
The white 2006 Mazda 6, registration FN2477, is one of four vehicles of interest.
The murder victim’s ute, as well as two other black cars have already been seized by police.
Detective acting Inspector and lead investigator Craig Fox said Tasmania Police was investing significant resources to “bring his killer to justice and provide closure for his family”.
“The circumstances of Jake’s death are traumatic and police will today continue extensive searches of multiple locations in Launceston including the Remount Road tip,” he said.
“As part of our investigation, we thank people who have responded to our public appeals for information and urge anyone with information that hasn’t spoken to police to come forward.
“We acknowledge that providing information to police in relation to a murder investigation could be daunting, and reassure people that providing information to Crime Stoppers is completely anonymous, they don’t need your name or number just your details, and you can do it online if you prefer not to physically speak to someone.”
Anyone with information about the car, or Mr Anderson-Brettner’s death, can contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
