Launceston detectives found the torso at Myrtle Park, in the North-East, on Sunday evening.

Police remain on the scene at Myrtle Park, to gather more evidence, along with other locations, as they continued their investigation on Monday.

Northern District Commander Brett Smith briefed the media at the Launceston Police Station about the discovery of the body, which has yet to be formerly identified.

Commander Smith said the investigation, which began last Thursday as a missing person case, had been upgraded to a murder investigation with the location of the body.

“The circumstances of this case are unpleasant and upsetting,” Commander Smith said.

“It is not a reflection on the usual activity that happens in Launceston.”

Detective acting Inspector Craig Fox, who is leading the investigation, said a number of locations were being searched by police as they continue to scour for further evidence.

Other locations include Remount Road, at Mowbray, and locations on the West Tamar, focused on Riverside.

A 26-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman, from Riverside, are assisting police.

They were taken into police custody on Saturday. 

Detective acting Inspector Fox said no charges had been laid as a result of the case.

A large number of police resources have been used, including “special resources” from across the state, to search for Mr Anderson-Brettner, who had been missing since August 15.

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was also used to aid the search, and focused on the Riverside area over the weekend.

Detective acting Inspector Fox said while the public response had been considerable, police were still seeking more information to help bring closure to the family.

He urged everybody with information relating to the case to contact police, regardless of how insignificant the information may seem.
