The smoke appeared to be coming from the Cataract Gorge area, and was caused by a fuel reduction burn, overseen by the Tasmania Fire Service.
The burn is about 5.9 hectares in size, at the Gorge reserve.
Many residents have raised concerns about the smoke.
The fire service will be conducting burns throughout Northern Tasmania over the coming weeks as part of its annual fuel reduction program.
Burn-offs are also flagged for the Trevallyn recreation area, Blackstone Heights, the Kate Reed recreation area at Prospect, and Carr Villa memorial park.
