Speaking with Tom and Nick Wolfe and guitarist Brodie Rainbird about the band’s latest album release Country Heart, the trio said they have not only grown as a band but as individuals.
Describing the content of the songs on the new album as “more honest and more us”, lead singer Nick explained they wanted to forge a new path.
“We’ve really tried to step it up and open some new doors up for ourselves. We’ve really tried to push that boundary,” he said.
Although Country Heart is a departure to their usual offering in terms of production and sound, each song has its own personality.
Bassist Tom said expanding what country music is in Australia was extremely important to the band.
Describing the latest release as a reflection of their growth, Tom explained that more than any other album this one really captured who they are and the people they had become.
“I think we’ve kind of just matured a bit, in our song writing, in our sound and just as people.”
More so than ever before the band has embraced who they are and where they have come from on the new album.
The recent death of their father, Malcolm Wolfe, provided inspiration and also a sense of what is important to the band as people and performers.
Nick described the album’s title song Country Heart as an indirect tribute to his father.
“I laid down, tried to go to sleep and lines started coming into my head,” he said.
“That song is kind of a big list of what is special and what makes you who you are.”
The band will tour later in the year, with dates to be released shortly.
