Tasmania Police said the car struck a fence and rolled down an embankment, landing on its roof.
The woman’s identity has not been confirmed.
Inspector Gary Williams, who is in charge of the Northern District Support Services, said a nine-year-old girl was also in the car when it crashed.
The girl was transported to Launceston General Hospital with “very minor injuries”.
Emergency services were called to the single vehicle crash about 4.30pm on Golconda Road, which is between Tunnel Road and Bacala Road.
Inspector Williams confirmed there were only two people in the car at the time.
The crash appeared to have been caused by “inexperience, inattention and not driving to conditions”, he said.
Tasmania Police crash investigators attended the incident and will prepare a report for the coroner.
“We’re going to have the wet weather continue for the next couple of days and we ask people to drive to the conditions,” Inspector Williams said.
“Give yourself extra time - we want people to get home to their loved ones.”
Golconda Road was closed for several hours after the crash. Further information was expected to be released within days, he said.
Police also responded to a serious crash at Murdunna in the state’s South-East on Saturday.
The Lebrina crash was the third fatality in the past week across the state.
