DAY 2 – Saturday
12.30pm UPDATE – Rain continues to tumble in Launceston, preventing play on day 2 from getting underway.
Good news for the Knights, but bad news for Westbury with the wet weather showing no signs of abating.
The forecast is also bad heading into Sunday.
DAY 1 – Friday
TEA, 3.45pm
Westbury are well in control of the first grade final, taking five wickets in the second session to reduce the Knights to 8-87.
Jackson began to get going after drinks, coming to life with a pull off Kooran for four.
A primary school excursion arrived just in time to see him club Howe over deep backward square-leg for six, but an untimely run-out ended his day not long after.
With Kerrison tying down both batsmen at the southern end, Jackson set off for a quick single but went to ground in the middle of the pitch after being sent back and was run out by Howe.
Earlier, Campbell Fraser put down a tough diving chance off Howe to give Casey Young a life, but made no mistake the second time around.
James Beattie and Jackson Young are the not-out batsmen, while Kooran has 3-17.
Kerrison has bowled 12 overs for three runs.
2.15pm:
The Shamrocks have come out firing in the second session, taking 3-6 to leave South Launceston in real trouble at 6-54.
Jacob Kooran got his man on the fourth ball after lunch, trapping Smith in front of the stumps for 20.
Nathan Philip nicked his third ball to a juggling Dane Anderson at second slip next over to give Chapman his third.
Kooran has been making the most of uneven bounce in the wicket from the southern end and in his third over after lunch the paceman picked up Mark Nutting, who had come out with the intent to tick the strike over.
Nutting swivelled around to pull through square-leg but the ball skidded through and hit him on the pads.
The Knights are now relying on Jackson to salvage something from a disappointing first few hours.
LUNCH BREAK, 1pm:
South lost Eastoe for 4 not long after drinks, mistiming a hook to mid-wicket off Kooran.
The quickie could have had the danger man Smith out for 15 a few overs later but a sharp chance was put down at point.
Runs have been difficult to come by in the first session, with the first boundary of the day coming in the final over before lunch thanks to a cut over backward point from Smith.
South go in for sandwiches and a cuppa at 3-42 off 29, with Smith on 20 off 82 and Jeremy Jackson 2 off 36.
Alex Kerrison has bowled three straight maidens while Kooran has 1-4 off six.
12pm: Welcome to the NTCA Ground No. 1 where we have perfect cricket weather – for today at least.
Westbury won the toss and unsurprisingly sent South Launceston in to bat, with the aim of rolling the Knights cheaply and setting up first innings points should rain affect day two and three as expected.
Jono Chapman took two wickets in the first hour, dismissing Sean Harris and then getting Tom Waller to nick one to the keeper.
South are 2-27 after 14 overs at the first drinks break with Alec Smith (12*) and Charlie Eastoe (2*) having both survived LBW shouts.
Chapman has 2-13 off 7.
