Scotch Oakburn College made the podium in the men’s under-19 coxless pair on Thursday, and returned on Friday morning with another second place in the under-19 coxed four.
North Esk’s Jack Barrett and Joe Wilson scooped the state’s third silver in the men’s under-21 double scull after qualifying first in their heat with six minutes and 40.87 seconds.
The time would have won them gold in the final, where the pair finished 5.72 seconds behind Griffith Uni Surfers Paradise in a time of 6:46.74.
Scotch Oakburn head coach James Russell said his under-19 pair of Nick Cash and Jacob Finnigan had put in a huge effort to see off hot competition from the third-placed Team Argentina.
“We were very pleased with that because as a school crew we don’t do a lot of work in the pair, we concentrate on our eight so that was a real credit to our boys,” he said.
“It was an international standard race.”
The Scotch team will now turn its attention to the under-19 and schoolboy eights this weekend, where Russell’s crews are hoping to thrive on the element of surprise.
“No-one really knows who we are being from Tasmania so we’ll hopefully surprise them.
“(Making the schoolboy final) is a really great achievement because we’ve got 12 senior rowers in the program and the other schools would have at least 50 to 60 seniors to choose from, so all our rowers are doing very well.”
North Esk’s Connor Ryan also brought home the state’s first bronze on Friday, teaming up with Adelaide’s Oscar McGuinness in the men’s under-23 lightweight double scull.
