Labor leader Rebecca White said Ms Lambert, who just missed out on a seat in Lyons at the state election, understood the needs of regional Tasmanians.
Ms Lambert, who grew up in Ravenswood, has been a teacher for 25 years and a councillor since 2011.
“I’m a fighter and that gave me the confidence to have another go,” Ms Lambert said.
Ms White said Labor would not contest the seat of Hobart and would focus on getting Ms Lambert elected.
The Liberals announced on Monday it would put failed state election Lyons candidate Jane Howlett in the running for the seat.
