The award was the United States military’s highest honour for a non-US citizen.
Rear Admiral Gilmore was recognised for his service as Head Australian Defence Staff and Australian Defence Attache at the Australian Embassy in Washington DC from January 2014 to 2017.
This was the culmination of a 40-year military career with the Royal Australian Navy.
Rear Admiral Gilmore was appointed Tasmanian Defence Advocate in August 2017.
In this role, he has lead Tasmania’s coordinated efforts to gain a larger share of Australia’s $200 billion upcoming defence investment.
Burnie firm Direct Edge was named a partner in delivering the next stage of the Land 400 armoured vehicles for the Australian Navy, with other Tasmanian firms likely to play a role.
