Anal Acharya and his family need help from the community to purchase a specially-designed vehicle with a wheelchair lift to enable Anal to continue his life around Launceston.
The Sony Foundation, which runs holiday camps at Launceston Church Grammar School every year for young people like Anal, is holding a raffle to help the Acharyas reach their goal.
Anal’s father Ananta said the Sony holiday camps had been much-loved by Anal.
“We came to Australia as Bhutanese refugees seven years ago and it has been hard to establish ourselves here,” Mr Acharya said.
“Because of his condition, Anal cannot walk, cannot stand by himself and it’s very difficult for us to assist him with getting around as he grows, so we need the van to help transport Anal.”
The Sony Foundation provides $10,000 grants to families in need who attend the camps, with the Acharyas receiving such a grant, but still being $4000 short to purchase the van.
The van would enable the family to move about without relying on taxis or struggling to lift Anal into vehicles, which is becoming harder as he grows.
The raffle’s first prize is two tickets to the Red Hot Summer Tour featuring John Farnham at the Country Club on Saturday, March 24.
Second prize is a Sony entertainment pack including a smart TV and a Playstation 4 Pro, and third is a mixed dozen of wines from Fox Gordon.
Raffle tickets can be purchased from the Cock’n’Bull British pub in person or by calling (03) 6331 0844.
Tickets are $20 each and the raffle will be drawn on Wednesday March 21.
