Eight years after the company last staged the musical, crowds have again flocked to the Princess Theatre for the performance, with the show already receiving two standing ovations since premiering on Friday night.
Director Belinda King said the cast and crew could not have asked for a better start to their run of dates.
“We’ve received an extraordinary reaction so far,” she said.
“When you put something like this together, you never know what the audience is going to think, and Launceston has seen two previous productions of Les Misérables.
“This is vastly different to what has been done before, and benefits enormously from recent theatre technology.
“It’s clear people have been mesmerised.”
Encore Theatre Company will perform Les Misérables between March 16 and 31 at the Princess Theatre.
Tickets are available through the Theatre North box office.
