Ongoing restoration works are the cause of the George Street Church’s current look, with the coloured windows set to be revitalised.
The windows currently boarded up mark the final stage of a longterm restoration project, according to church rector Reverend Dane Courtney.
He said the works would be completed soon after facing ongoing delays.
The original date of completion was several weeks ago.
“Movement of the stained glass over time causes the lead to deteriorate,” he said.
“They just take them out and re-do the lead and put them back in again.”
The gothic church, as it stands, was completed in 1902, however some of the stained glass windows were crafted in 1842 in England.
Mr Courtney said it was likely the first time the building’s windows had undergone extensive restoration works.
