As a result some classes were required to evacuate for a short period of time prior to the commencement of the school day. The fault has been rectified.

As per the Department’s Critical Incident and Emergency Procedures, emergency services were called to investigate and classes have now resumed as normal.  At no time was there any threat to students or staff. Parents will be informed about the incident.

UPDATE: 9.50am – TFS has advised that students were evacuated for about half an hour while the fire crew entered the building. 

Parents will be notified of the incident, which has been resolved. No students were in the classroom at the time of the incident. 

UPDATE: 9.22am – The TFS has advised the incident at Penguin District School has been contained. 

EARLIER: The Tasmania Fire Service is currently attending a structure fire at Penguin District School this morning. 

The TFS advised that smoke is coming out from a room at the school and students had been evacuated from the area. 

The TFS said smoke was coming out of the Dial Room with one heavy pumper and one heavy tanker arriving on the scene when the structure fire was reported at 8:31am.
