The black spot area will be the beneficiary of small cell technology, which will translate into 4G mobile coverage for the North-East town.
Telstra will install small cell mobile technology on TasNetworks infrastructure to enable the coverage.
Telstra chief executive Andrew Penn said a small cell is a miniature version of a mobile base station.
“A small cell may allow us to deliver mobile coverage and capacity to smaller communities, and areas, where the construction of a mobile base station would otherwise be uneconomical,” he said.
Telstra will also trial the technology on TasNetworks infastructure at other sites throughout Tasmania, including Pynegana, Bruny Island and Tunnack.
Telstra announced it had built phone towers at Weldborough in November, but it retracted the statement in January.
Parts of the Derby Bike Trails are at Weldborough and were without coverage.
