Update 12.20pm: A man has died after he was hit by a car.
The man alleged to have been behind the wheel was later found by police at a home in Trevallyn.
He was arrested and taken into custody for questioning and his car was seized.
Senior Sergeant Nick Clark said police were still working to identify the pedestrian.
“We are trying to make inquiries in relation to the person’s next of kin,” he said.
No further details about the man accused of fleeing from the scene has been released, but police said he was about 30 years old.
Anyone who witnessed the incident should contact police on 131 444.
Police will provide further details to media about 3pm Friday.
Earlier: A driver has fled the scene after hitting a pedestrian, sparking a police hunt in Launceston’s western suburbs.
The car was spotted on the corner of Knox and Burrows Streets at Prospect Vale where the pedestrian was struck just before 11am Friday.
Police and emergency services were called to the scene, but the vehicle was gone.
The car was described as a late-model black dual cab Ford Ranger with a rear fiberglass canopy.
They were last seen heading towards Chris Street, Prospect Vale.
