Ben Gibb prepares to de-beard for the World's Greatest Shave

Meet Ben Gibb.

Ben is our IT guy. Yes his favourite phrase is ‘have you tried restarting your computer?’.

Not only is Ben the best because he fixes our computers, he is also fundraising money for this year’s World’s Greatest Shave.

And this isn’t Ben’s first rodeo. In 2015 he participated in the fundraiser with ‘Team Examiner’, which included Nick and Cyle.

Ben gave up his golden locks that year, and the top of his head has not seen scissors since.

This year Ben has decided to go one step further and shave his beard to raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation

“Most people congratulate me on participating, and then when they find out it is my beard not my head they get more serious,” he said.

Some of Ben’s closest family and friends considered starting up an “alternate fund to keep the beard”.

“The thought of de-bearding was a little daunting at first, but I'm committed now,” he said.

Money raised during the event goes to the Leukaemia Foundation, which is Australia’s only national charity dedicated to helping people with leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma and related disorders survive their blood cancer and live a better quality of life.

Ben lost his nanna to cancer, making the fundraiser even closer to his heart.

“I donate regularly to the Cancer Council, but the Greatest Shave provides an opportunity to raise not just money but awareness,” he said.

Ben already hit his original fundraising goal so he has offered his hair up for a “bright, permanent colour” to the highest donor.

“Hopefully four plus years of beard will get a good amount of donations,” he said.

Barber on George owner Hamish MacKean has kindly offered to de-beard Ben on March 16.

MacKean said offering his services was a great way to do something positive for the community.

“The community comes in and supports us so it is always nice to give back,” he said.
