Dr Goodwin, 48, died from brain cancer on Saturday.
Mr Hodgman said he had worked with her family to make the arrangements for the state funeral which will be held at 2pm on Friday 9 March at St. David’s Cathedral in Hobart.
Premier Will Hodgman said it was appropriate that Dr Goodwin received such an honour in recognition of her “fine contribution to the state.”
He said Labor leader Rebecca White had supported the state funeral.
“Due to the fact that she was a very important part of the last government and had to resign due to her illness, I think it something all Tasmanians would welcome,” Mr Hodgman said.
“With respect to Vanessa’s passing it was difficult for all of us and a most extraordinary coincidence of events to happen on election day.
“But I know that Vanessa is looking down very proudly on her colleagues who have delivered another majority Liberal Government for our state.
“She was such an important part of our team over the last four years.
“She will be carried in our hearts and will continue to motivate us and inspire us as to how we can be the very best government we can be.”
Mr Hodgman said Dr Goodwin had great integrity, compassion and intelligence and he continued to “miss her dearly.”
An official funeral notice will appear in Tasmania’s three daily newspapers tomorrow.
Tasmanians wishing to attend will need to register by email to protocol@dpac.tas.gov.au or by calling the phone number advertised tomorrow.
The Law Council of Tasmania has also praised Dr Goodwin’s legacy.
Vanessa made a significant and no doubt lasting contribution to the legal sector in Tasmania,” President Will Justo said.
“She championed a number of significant law reform projects which she was able to make a reality as Attorney General.
“She was principled, diligent, approachable and hardworking and will be missed by many.”
