Reptile Rescue Incorporated Tasmania were called to reports of a man who had found a tiger snake under his car on Monday morning.
Liv Johnston, of Snake Catchers Tasmania was called in to assist with the rescue and said the man nearly stepped on the snake in the car park of Becks Home Hardware in Boland Street.
“We reckon it came into the car park under a car or in a load of rubbish,” Ms Johnston said.
Launceston resident James Bird said he was surprised to see a snake in the car park.
“[It’s the] first time I have ever seen one in a busy built up area like a hardware store car park,” he said.
“People were watching to see where it was going, there were a few people making sure it didn’t get hurt.”
Mr Bird said he was unsure what happened to the reptile after he left.
“I had to go back to work … it was around 1.5 metres [long] I reckon.”
Reptile Rescue Incorporated Tasmania will keep the snake overnight to monitor it for injuries, before it is released back into the wild.
