Friday’s award ceremony for 2017 will be held at the newly built Perth Stadium, with a video showcasing Northern Tasmania set to officially launch the campaign.
The advertisement will introduce the crowd to Northern Tasmanian icons, including the Cataract Gorge, Ricky Ponting, Richie Porte, the Harvest Market, Josef Chromy and the Derby Trails.
“We’re really focusing on Launceston – not Tasmania,” Tourism Industry Council Tasmania chief executive Luke Martin said.
“The reason we’re having it [in Launceston] is to showcase regional and northern Tasmania.
“[The video] ticks a number of boxes and, as a proud Tasmanian, I think it shows Launceston for the amazing place it is – it sends the message to the tourism industry.”
Launceston was announced in September as the next host for the tourism industry’s premier event.
Mr Martin said the plan was to hold the evening under a marquee at the Cataract Gorge’s First Basin.
The 2019 Australian Tourism Awards will be held on March 1, 2019.
